Dragon companion

I was trying to store a dragon in my lair storage, but it keeps saying "You cannot have a Dragon" I am guessing it means I can't put it in lair storage because it has a dragon companion. I tried to donate it to the academy and it said I couldn't due to conflict with a companion. I was hoping to at least store it then. Is there a way around this? I only ever put 1 companion on it years ago, can it be removed?

You can remove the companion dragon via the lair manager. Click the 'Dragon Companion' icon in the middle row between the dragon stable on the left and the other half on the right. It will open to the dragon companion, take it out (left upper companion icon). Also remember to take off your dragon's armor, saddle, and armlet before putting it into the dragon chamber.
