Here are the concepts of the new PvP system we have conceptualized:
  • Making PvP completely opt-in through enablepvp command.
    • Command will have a cooldown for enabling and disabling it, preventing abuse.
    • Command cannot be used in combat to prevent abuse.
    • Command will override sky island territory wars (this is still under consideration).
      • If possible disable PvP on a single island, making it the opposite of B19 (when it is up). Only crystals would be available, and no mobs.
    • PvP becomes available at 100+.
    • Disable enablepvp upon death and clear the cooldown (prevention for spawn camping), and disable it in towns, at spawn points, in dungeons and in similar places. Duels would still be available.
  • Flag wild dragons that are in the capture mini-game to make them invincible.
    • This is partially due to PvP, and partially due to the actions of players already.
  • PvP will now be party/raid based allowing for more structured PvP (GvG, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5).
    • Possibly implement a group PvP option that will enablepvp on both party/raids and will only be lifted when the duel ends. This is to prevent abuse of people disabling in combat to not die. We also do not want to leave it in the hands of the group leader as it could be used to grief people.
    • Implement a player arena (similar to Dragon Arena) so that players can do structured competitive PvP.
  • (Possibly) Encourage PvP through an existing or new point system that will allow them to purchase PvP specific items.
In my opinion, this should fix issues some people who are against PvP that currently exist in Dragon's Prophet, while also create a more structured PvP system for people who enjoy PvP.

Many complaints in this thread regarding PvP have less to do with open world PvP, and PvP in general. I have already asked Vipera to help me write up guidelines regarding PvP that will be made part of the community guidelines that I am in the process of writing. These guidelines will layout the behavior expected of players on our server, as well as what we deem abuse or a reportable offense.

If issues come up regarding to anything PvP related, we will look over these plans, and adjust them accordingly as I want to balance and improve this aspect of the game so that it creates a better community, and not encourage more toxicity.

I think people need to take a step back and look at what was said again. From what It looks like all that will change for the "open world" is mostly to allow players to pvp each other in a group. We can do 1v1 duels outside of war but this will allow some fun group vs group battles as well that is not just in bg or war. Meaning that if you choose to do so you can also do a group vs group duel of people in the same guild. I think this would be a fun add on. Even in the guild I am in we have people wanting to pvp others during war but not many show up if at all. This will let the team duels start to be a thing.

If you want the thrill of having open world pvp you can opt into it if you desire to. They have some safeguards to prevent abuse and spawn killing by having you need to re opt in after death. It will also prevent people from shutting it off if they find themselves on the losing end of battle by having a cool down on it. As he said most "public places" like towns will not have any open pvp on them. As for dragon abuse it wont change anything for those that choose not to opt into pvp mode.

For dragon abuse. If you opt into pvp and someone kills you as you try to cap a dragon.. well that was their choice of doing it in the first place. Sounds like they have some plans to prevent dragon killing overall saying that once its tagged it can only be damaged by the person trying to cap it or maybe people in that party. Also 90% of the dragons caught are caught by the same 5 people from what I see. So I cant really see this being an issue unless the server gets super large. If anything it will just go back to the old ways of guild involvement in trying to cover all the spawning points and getting the tag. Since eggs are now a thing as well i really don't see this being an issue unless people just want to be a dick about it.

As for the opt out for war. If they can get a farming island up I can see that as fine. Saves the headache for Seiichi trying to enforce ban policies for pvping people in a pvp zone. However if you opt out of pvp during a normal war I can see some ways to take advantage of it by still being able to attack mobs and maybe capture towers without being able to get hurt by players.

Overall it looks like its a win win no matter who you are. If you never opt into pvp you will never notice its a thing outside of people randomly fighting outside of 1v1 duels. If anything it might make the pvpers less bloodthirsty during war when they can fight each other for fun instead of hunting people down not looking for a fight just to fight. If you are into duels and like to fight it will be something new to try with friends instead of waiting to hopefully fight someone during war or BG. They want to change the game for the better. Have more things to do and all that. This is just something they think they could implement without any MAJOR work. If it can make a bunch of people happy why not.

Dragons would become invincible during the mini-game, not when tagged.

Other than that everything is essentially what I am wanting to change about the game. Encourage PvP for people who enjoy PvP, and keep PvP away from people who absolutely detest it.

i like pvp and pve, if i can i alw join wars etc, but i honestly not like the idea of a pvp open world, if someone want to duels, groups etc can go to B19. Why need a open world? Also how many ppl have go to B19 or war etc when some1 asking for pvp? lol just few maybe or none. I think a open world wil just ruin the game...

Please read over the posts I made, and Newbs most recent post.

There is a misunderstanding in what is meant by open world in our implementation. Rather than it being a free for all, it is a completely by choice opt-in system, where no one will forcibly have to PvP if they do not wish to.

The first post has been changed to the PvP concept; if you have actual input that is not covered in the concept please post it.

If you cannot provide an actual reason as to why you have an issue with open world PvP, it is going to be ignored. The way it is going to be implemented is that nothing would change for anyone else they choose to enable the command, meaning if you do not like PvP you would never have to ever participate.

However if you do like PvP, you would be able to participate when you want to, and then disable it when you decide you need to do something else (Or not, if you want to live dangerously).

The benefits of the overhaul is that it would allow group PvP within an alliance or guild, which could then be used for practicing PvP or for when no one else wants to join a territory war.

Regarding territory wars, rather than allowing to opt out of PvP on them, we will enable a new sky island that would be solely for PvE Laedis farming (however not 24/7). PvP would be disabled here so people who do not want to PvP will again, never have to PvP.

Dragons will not be targetable once you start the capture mini-game, preventing griefing that already exists without open world PvP. However to enable that we need a flag to differentiate whether or not you're a PvP or PvE player, which would be the enablepvp command.

It is very frustrating to get complaints about a concept that is literally meant to cut down on complaints I get on a day to day basis. When I am eating dinner, I get 5+ complaints about them being killed in territory war, which is exclusively PvP but because of bad design Dragon's Prophet put it as a requirement for PvE gear farming.

This system does not effect you unless you want it to.

Hummm, I will wait and see how this is implemented. And yes the above problem already exists, and is already severely rampant on EU. The notion seems logical but will there be a way to abuse it? The switch will have to be visible something that cant be triggered by mistake.

Also I would like to suggest a solution to Dragon killing, set up a counter and if that counter goes above 2 have a trigger that automatically turns on pvp for 12 hours starting when person logs in and goes on hold when off line, why kill a dragon when so many want that dragon. The counter should be reset to zero on reset after the 12 hours is done with. This would hopefully stop the on slaughter of Dragons a lot of people look for in this game. It would also provide a target for those who want revenge or give a target to those who pvp.

PVP should never have been a requirement to get the gear, there should have been a PVE alternative in place.

Temporary Bans don't work, they don't change the mentality of players. If a player enjoys making others miserable nothing short of being hunted or a permanent ban will make them stop.

The enablepvp command gives you a buff, so you would be able to see by checking your buffs. It would also give you the flaming background for your avatar.

Not sure if the deterrent for killing dragons can be added easily, and there are also cases of accidental killing of dragons (Primal Star, Cobalt Lightning etc). The best option currently is to just report abuse and it'll be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Permanent banning is only for people who constantly abuse, or ignore warnings.

Not sure how rampant dragon killing will be on this server. Tamji caught like 15+ dragons yesterday and could hardly give them away xD Don't think they would need to make a whole new system to punish a few players by having them be in pvp mode if they kill a dragon. Also would need to figure out how to have the system figure out when its ok to kill a dragon and when its not. I'm sure you killed many random dragons and some quests even make you kill dragons for items xD

A better counter would be to make all dragons spawns random so people cant farm them. Ill post the suggestion in a diff post instead of this one however. This one is for pvp.

Hey Many people in my circle has been talking about pvp In DP or lack there of, and Im also looking to figure out how we can revive the pvp aspect of this game. the past few months we had record levels of players on the server but still no PVP at war. I'm also on the ledge of quitting due to lack of incentive to work on gear and dragons if theres no competitive aspect.

Battle Grounds is not a proper PVP mode in my opinion stats are altered and makes PVP feel fake and outside of laedis rarely anyone goes there,

I think there need to be incentives for PVP
theres no PVP because theres no Rewards No leaderboards No Compeitive spirit in the current Game same reason why no one goes to PVP island

I'm making this post to give people a chance to make suggestions since my own view can be narrowed and Bias.

I suggest updating island rewards for participating. as of now we get 5 purple flutes and other lousy junk that no one wants at this point. Maybe if there's a gold reward at the end of war or dragon insignias or something more useful

also a leader board for island wars will be a good incentive and ranks can get certain rewards

and my last suggestion is to alter the cap on certain sats IE Toughness, Resist, Crit Power

I also suggest adding a group VS group Duel system because 1 v 1 isn't balanced currently but group v group can help.

just want to hear the community thoughts on this before i throw in the towel and leave.

I plan to go back and figure out what we'll be doing for the overhaul of PvP, so if anyone has any suggestions or ideas I will look at including them.

well, on EU server there have been two main reasons to have active pvp on islands - the islands income and the Logistics Merchants.
(another important point is the time of territory war, but that has already been discussed on another thread)

Both reasons you dont have here (yet?), since the income is that low so its worthless, and the merchants aren´t even available - since there was no reply on the merchants thread i dont even know if you can´t activate it here, are just not interested in doing so or just forgot to reply.

without these two reasons i would at least sometimes join pvp if it was fun - but it isnt, cuz of the behaviour of the people Catspaw described in post #5 here.

so i still go to territory war to farm things i need - but avoid doing pvp, and consider myself as pve player only...

I've been looking into the merchants, the problem is they've made a very convoluted system and I have no clue why they do not activate.

Would it be an option to just place a merchant in arteicia and give the guy the same items for the same currency? Oc that would remove the fight over the merchant Islands, but like it is now you dont really have a reason to do Islands at all
