If you feel it's a long time since May 2020, then you're not going to be satisfied with any answer.

We are still working on the source update, which is basically the foundation to do any real changes or content to the server. Without source we cannot really make changes or modify the client, which means that we are limited to mostly data and scripting changes which means a lack of future functionality.

Outside of the client and server source code, we still need finish working on tools for the game, as most of them are in states that do not work propery or do not export properly. The map tool has some functionality that does not work, that is needed for adding new zones or dungeons, and then we need to train a mapper to do new maps. The model exporter is also a custom implementation for a custom proprietary format that is used by Dragon's Prophet, and that also needs to be fixed and reworked for modern 3D Studio Max; Aiden also will have to learn how to use it.

Developing a game is not easy; reverse engineering and developing a game that is not your own is even more difficult; this is even more difficult when every aspect of the game was poorly coded and there are complications throughout the different aspects of the game.

Here is the current list of development priorities:
  • Functionality and feature parity with current client and server
  • Bug fixing, exploit fixing
  • Performance improvements
  • Quality of life improvements
  • Performance improvements: upgrading/fixing UI performance, and upgrading to newer DirectX
    • This is the main cause for FPS issues in the game, and also for lag and overall performance issues.
  • Tool development
    • This is done throughout the development process; we first developed our own data tool which we will be turning into a web application for better workflow, and our developer has been developing a tool to allow modification of custom model structures so that we can make further changes as needed.
  • Custom content
We are not the original developers of Dragon's Prophet; everything we do is going to take longer than if it was the original team because we have to learn and understand each thing we work on before we can make any headway into it. It does not help that literally every decision from the ground up in how Dragon's Prophet was developed makes faster pace development more difficult.

So you may think things are slow, however everything takes time, and our team is constantly working as quickly as possible without over extending ourselves, or introducing new issues (as would have been the case if we had pushed forward with the source update last year).

LG Ruhloser ^^
