The channels work exactly like world chat in that they use megaphones, but they are able to be separated and used separately. The languages chosen were based off of population density.
We have two last features we're hoping to add before we move onto just a testing and polish phase, which is going to be adding support for the Ruby system (we are not making it based on spending you do in game, but based on redemption of Diamonds to the game) and also the ability to change Guild and Alliance names potentially.
